Seeking Help
Living life can pose many mental health challenges and I firmly believe that no one has to be alone to face these challenges. My role as a clinical psychologist is to help people understand and work through the challenges they face, to guide them along a path toward their own healing and recovery, and to provide support and encouragement along the way. I feel it is a great privilege to be present with individuals as they open themselves up to change in their life, which is often scary and uncertain. I strive to create a safe, affirming, and supportive environment for my clients to reduce and manage distress, improve meaningful relationships and quality of life, and attain their desired goals. I want to help my clients recognize and build upon their strength and resources, to feel relieved of burdens they have carried, and to feel as though someone truly cares about their journey and wellness.
Individual Psychotherapy
Sometimes life is really difficult and you don't have to be alone. My approach is to utilize empirically based approaches to treat mental health issues and the impact of life stressors. I treat many mental health conditions, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, grief, end of life issues, care-giver stress, life transitions, chronic medical illnesses, and trauma and abuse. I am also an EMDR Trained Therapist.
Couple's Therapy
Life stressors can create disconnection in our significant relationships, leading to increased feelings of isolation, resentment, sadness, and longing. Therapy can help to repair these important connections and promote a deeper understanding and feelings of closeness with our partners. Specifically, I work from the theoretical approach of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with my clients, which focuses on learning how to be the best partner we can be and to create a bond that is resilient and strong. Interventions in EFT integrate a humanistic, experiential approach to repair connections. A substantial body of research now exists on the effectiveness of EFT. Teletherapy
I am currently offering teletherapy services for new and established clients. It is important during this uncertain and unprecedented time that we stay safe and connected. Telehealth is provided through a secure portal and research supports that it is an effective means to receive psychotherapy.
Infertility & Assisted Reproductive Technology consultations
Infertility affects many, and when it does, it can be heartbreaking. I strive to provide a supportive and compassionate experience for couples and individuals who need Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) to support creating the family they want to have. My goal is to function as a useful resource as you navigate the process and to support healthy dialogue as you consider the nuances. I appreciate many have been through a lot to arrive at their decisions, and want to provide a warm and safe environment as they continue their journey. I strive to work collaboratively with the client and their treatment team, keeping everyone informed throughout the process.
Hi, i'm Dr. Amy
I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Xavier University and I am licensed in the state of Ohio. In 2010, I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Tennessee Valley Health Care and Vanderbilt University Consortium, working with veterans in the VA healthcare system and college students in a campus counseling center. In 2019, I completed extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an empirically supported treatment for couples and individuals.
I have strong professional interests in working with couples, adults and older adults. I have worked primarily in outpatient clinics, nursing and retirement communities, and private practice. I enjoy being involved in the training and supervision of others, as well as community based efforts and volunteering.
